Where The Skills Fit

Where These Skills Could Take You

Youth services, schools and family teams all lean on this ground. The college suggests further training or a placement to build hands on practice.

Good to Know

Common Questions

Do I need to work with young people already?

Not at all. Plenty of students start from scratch.

How long do I get?

Twelve months of access, and around three hundred hours of material.

Are there exams?

None, ever. You work through the three parts at your own speed.

What is inside the diploma?

Counselling skills, child development and adolescent development.

Is this course accredited?

It carries ICOES, IARC and CPD Standards Office accreditation. It is not a QQI course and not a national award. It is a grounding for support work.

Will this turn me into a registered counsellor?

It will not, and the course page is upfront about that. There is no supervised clinical training in it. What you get is the skill base and the development theory behind youth work.

Can I study from anywhere?

Yes, anywhere in Ireland with a connection.

Who should I talk to first?

A course advisor. Tell them your plan and ask if this fits.
